greenhouse.

Have you ever thought about using chickens to heat a greenhouse?
Not only do the chickens' body heat contribute to keeping the greenhouse’s temperature up but
they also help the plants grow by exhaling carbon dioxide.
In a tightly closed space like a greenhouse, CO2 can run low as plants suck it up.
Best idea ever!

chicks

it's spring & we got baby chicks!
i am so happy around these sweet little girls.
i hold them every day--obsessed.
we may just start a chick raising business, when they  grow up & are laying eggs we will sell them so we can get more little babies.
for now we have 8 chicks, 6 hens, & 1 rooster.

life lately

so many good things.
Ryder & Kola are obsessed with eggs so we give them afternoon snacks & its helping their coats.
Whoopi is still brooding so we've been showing her some extra love.
new traditions have come about--Friday night soccer in the park with really cool people!
the Flea Off Market was yesterday & we got to go with Carol Anne, Bekah, & her two sweet boys Tristan(he's on Ben's shoulders) & Collin.
i got a new home for my cactus finally--an art student from Indiana made the cute pot.
Ryder loves sleeping on my body lately.
my friend Ashley sent me the sweetest note in the mail with honey recipes and that cute bee pin--thanks sweet girl!
i keep obsessively eating pistachios--it makes me think of the Lisa Hannigan song "Pistachio"

endeavor

endeavor

endeavor: an attempt to achieve a goal.
a few weeks ago i shot this video.
i spent the day with my friend Bekah.
we went & picked up her bees.
after the bee pick up we went & got her two goats--Lady & Banjo.
it was a beautiful day & i will remember it forever.

Homeland
Endeavor is the first of a series of short films.
I created Homeland to inspire.
I want to show things from the land, people, beauty, food, & community.
I want to take things back to our roots.

Yesterday I woke up early to go with my friend Bekah (she has a great blog read it here) to pick up her bees & goats. We hopped in the truck & headed east. Once we picked up the bees we continued going east and picked up her goats (Lady & Banjo). We went to her farm & set up the hives. It was the most peaceful experience--I know what you're thinking--peaceful? But it truly was. We didn't get stung and there were thousands of bees flying around our heads. We milked Lady. Once we finished all of that we got really hungry so we killed her rooster Rocky & cooked him up for dinner. It was the craziest & best day. We had so much fun--everything from good conversation in the car, beekeeping, goat milking, to chicken killing & laughing around a lovely campfire.

Ruff.

We just had a great weekend, full of time spent with friends, snuggling in bed with the poochies, egg collecting, & lots of laughing. The dogs have been sleepy lately, my thought is because the weather keeps changing--one day it is bright, warm, & sunny & the next there are two inches of snow on the ground, its confusing. Ryder still eats everything in sight, even Ben's breakfast (yogurt-granola goodness). Kola loves when I take her running, everyday she begs for the leash so she can get her chance to hit the road.
Life is simple & sweet, I am thankful.
