local

Louisville has always been my home & as I've grown so has this beautiful city.
Growing up I often enjoyed the things Louisville had to offer, the community
mainly, I love that no matter where you go everything still feels like home.
In 2010 I began working for Edible Louisville Magazine & was inspired
by our city's developing local food scene.
Please & Thank You comes to mind whenever I'm craving a spanish latte
& a cinnamon roll the size of my head.
I know I can go there & feel at peace. It's not just the awesome sweets, incredible
Argo Sons Coffee, or variety of records that take me by surprise, but it's the warmth.
Hospitality is an understatement for this quaint shop on 800 East Market,
I am always amazed by the sweetness, not only in their chocolate chip cookies, but in their staff
These people are amazing! WOW. They make me feel like I'm apart of their family,
not just a customer buying their product--but someone who is appreciated & known.
So thank you and please keep it up. My weekly visits never feel enough, I always crave more.

asheville.

Last week we went to Asheville with Tim & Em.
We spent two nights in a tent & two nights in a cabin.
Everything about this trip was easy & amazing.
Highlights include:
All four of us sleeping in the same tent next to the South Mills River.
Making backcountry bacon & pancakes.
Sharing a Punkin Ale with Em.
Watching the boys hunt fish- YES Tim caught a wild brown & it was awesome.
Throwing rocks at a giant black snake in the middle of a trail.
Sharing a jar of pickles.
Staying up late & laughing.
Going to French Broad Chocolate Lounge four times in 28 hours.
Walking around the city with Em while Ben learned about flies & Tim interviewed for a job.
Fishing on the Davidson twice.
Watching Em catch crazy wild fish.
Ben catching a beautiful 15in trout with his three weight.
Pulling in a big rainbow trout in the dark.
Road tripping home.
So. Much. Goodness.

odyssey.

across the foamy heads of breakers
through alders
along roads ground to gravel
by ice fleeing a late Spring
into the company
of creatures better suited for water than land
and strangers offering parentage and brotherhood
to the wanderer
lost and found
at home in the world

wild things.

thankful.

Today I'm thankful.
I had the privilege of visiting sweet Em over the weekend.
We ate yummy food at Velvet Taco with her great friends.
Went to The Ranch for three days.
Shared amazing conversation.
Cooked breakfast for three hours.
Blueberry pancakes fried in bacon grease & topped with granola...ummm #YES
Caught up on sleep, yep I didn't have jet-lag but Em most definitely did, luckily I'm a bear & can sleep anytime.
We laid out.
Fed Hank & Skinny Jimmy.
Went for a run.
Enjoyed the pond.
So many good things.
I am happy.

Seldovia

Dear Seldovia,
I'm still not over ya.
We took the Rainbow Tour to the most amazing little town.
Kisska was the pup on board. We spent two hours petting her while we looked at the sea otters and puffin.
We walked to the local book shop & grabbed a cup of coffee.
After coffee & cookies we hiked up to the reservoir to go fly-fishing.
Enjoying the town on our way up. Sweet scenery, kids riding their bikes, & adorable men with yellow rain jackets & boots washing their cars.
It was a perfect day.
